Manu Lafer is a composer, singer and pediatrician who has recorded twenty albums, covering different styles and recovering many rare, old songs, which he has given new life. While he hails from São Paulo, Lafer considers his music Pan-American: His compositions incorporate styles such as samba, baião, afoxé, foxtrot, and bolero, among many others, making him that singular kind of singer who experiments freely, without prejudice and with a vivacious pleasure that comes across in his work. Lafer has achieved all of this while meanwhile working intensely as a pediatrician and medical researcher, opting to simply ignore the “dilemma” of having to choose between these careers. All of these musical influences and life experiences inform his original and invigorating songwriting. Lafer’s discography features partnerships with an array of brilliant composers, interpreters and arrangers, from Brazil and abroad, who have helped him shape this resonant world that you can get to know here.
