Repete Que Varia (in a loose translation, repeat it to make it change)
synthesizes Manu Lafer music: authorial, original, Brazilian and pop, influenced
by such artists as Gilberto Gil and Jorge Ben Jor.
Repete que varia, the song that names the album, is a rockabilly in a good-
humored chronicle about a couple in love, that wishes to overcome the
challenges of a daily life together. The song is inspired by Chico Buarque and
Caetano Veloso’s live medley (Você Não Entende Nada and Quotidiano), as
well as by one of writer Luís Fernando Veríssimo’s texts.
Swami Jr, in charge of production, was loyal to the original compositions and
guitar arrangements (specially in some tracks like Mais Bonita and Sem parar)
He plays the bass and other instruments, including guitars, which he shares
with Alexandre Fontanetti, responsible for the recordings. On the drums we
have Alex Duarte, and Manu is the interpreter.
There are songs with pop arrangements of Brazilian rhythms (ijexá, carioca
funk…) and international rhythms as well (rock, ska, reggaeton), composed by
the author.
The playlist has new songs (Garota de Sampa, Sem parar, Eu sei, Agora, Faz,
Mais bonita, and Krig Rá, a nonsense creation for children), re-recordings
(Tabatha, Martha, Clara Maria, Passos, A jura, Era pra ser) in the author´s style
and perspective and a João Gilberto inspired version of a chant sung by
Flamengo’s crowd in Qatar, 2019, to boot.
